Cosmetic Dentistry Philadelphia, PA

If you're not happy with the appearance of your smile, we offer many modern cosmetic procedures that can give you amazing results, often in less time.

Teeth Whitening in Philadelphia

We offer many whitening solutions. Our take-home whitening method effectively removes stains and improves discoloration (yellowing) associated with aging. For this solution, you'll wear a customized tray filled with whitening gel at least an hour per day, for a week. We also offer an in-office whitening treatment that can produce a brilliant, bright smile, faster. Teeth whitening may not be effective for every case. Porcelain veneers or crowns are better options for treating severe stains.

Bonding

Bonding is a common solution for restoring chipped teeth, hiding discoloration and stains, and reducing unsightly gaps between teeth. During the procedure, tooth-colored composite resin is bonded to the tooth and shaped. Ultraviolet light is applied to harden the resin. Bonding removes little, if any, of the original tooth structure. Composite bonds, however, are not as durable and long-lasting as porcelain veneers and crowns.

Porcelain Laminates

Porcelain laminates, also called veneers, are wafer-thin semi-translucent "shells" typically bonded to your front teeth. Veneers are customized. They are commonly used to treat chipped, crooked, worn, discolored, uneven or stained teeth. Veneers can also correct alignment problems. Persons with decay, advanced gum disease, or severe misalignment should not receive veneers. Porcelain crowns or orthodontic treatment may better treatment alternatives.

Fillings

Fillings are used to treat cavities. Prior to placing a filling, your dentist removes all areas of decay on the tooth, and replaces it with either a silver (amalgam) or composite filling. Composite resins are very popular because they closely match the color of natural teeth. If decay is extensive, a porcelain inlay or onlay may be required.

Porcelain Inlays & Onlays

Inlays and onlays are suitable for treating mild to moderate decay, and can be used to restore a cracked or fractured tooth if the damage is not extensive enough to require a crown. The process for placing inlays and onlays generally requires two or more office visits. Initially, once the decay is removed, your dentist will take an impression of the tooth. A temporary restoration is placed until the custom-made inlay/onlay is manufactured in a laboratory. Inlays and onlays are usually made of gold or porcelain material. Once fabricated, they are securely bonded to the tooth, and are extremely durable. Porcelain is typically preferred, because it most closely matches the color of natural teeth. When tooth decay is in an advanced stage, a crown may be the only alternative.

Porcelain Crowns

A crown is a custom-made covering that fits over an original tooth that is badly decayed, damaged or cracked. Crowns significantly strengthens the tooth structure. The process for receiving a crown usually requires a minimum of two to three office visits over a three to four week period. Once all areas of decay are removed, your dentist takes an impression of the affected tooth. That information is sent to a dental laboratory, where the crown is created. Crowns are made of a variety of different materials such as porcelain and gold. Porcelain crowns have the most natural appearance, making them an ideal choice. Gold crowns are generally placed on back teeth. Teeth that are severely decayed may need to be extracted. In these cases, bridges or implants are recommended.

Porcelain Fixed Bridges

A dental bridge is designed to bridge a gap created by one or several missing teeth. Missing teeth affect your ability to chew and speak properly. Also, missing teeth causes shifting that can lead to bite problems (occlusion) and/or jaw problems and resultant periodontal disease. Porcelain fixed bridges are designed to restore your smile, and help you speak and chew properly. For the procedure, your dentist will initially take a mold of the area with the missing tooth. Your customized bridge will be created in a dental laboratory. Prior to placement, the surrounding teeth will be prepared. You'll receive a temporary bridge while your bridge is being made. When your permanent bridge is placed, multiple visits may be necessary to ensure it fits properly. Once the bridge is checked and adjusted, it is cemented into place.
